Race details

Honoring those living with Parkinson's and all who have been affected.

Why I'm running

This one's for my grandad.

My grandad recently died of Parkinson's. Near the end it took the thing most people never think about — being able to move the way you want to move.

I run cross country. Running is the thing I'm best at, and it's the thing he lost.

So on October 17, I'm putting on a 10K in Danville. The red tulip is the worldwide symbol for Parkinson's. Every dollar over cost goes to research.

Come run six miles with me. He'd have liked that.

Why a red tulip

The flower of Parkinson's awareness

In 1980, a Dutch gardener living with Parkinson's grew a new red and white tulip and named it after Dr. James Parkinson, the doctor who first described the disease. Today the red tulip is the worldwide symbol for Parkinson's awareness.

Parkinson's affects millions of people around the world, and there is still no cure. Research is how that changes. That's why every runner who crosses the finish line gets a red tulip.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need to be a fast runner?

Not at all. Run it, jog it, or walk it at your own pace. The course is an out and back, so you can also turn around early if you want a shorter day.

Where does the money go?

Every dollar over cost from the $35 registration and donations goes to the Danville d’Elegance Foundation.

Where do I park and check in?

Start and finish are at 655 Old Orchard Dr, Danville, CA 94526, right by the Iron Horse Trail. Check-in opens at 6:30 AM and we start at 7:00 AM sharp.

What is the course like?

The Iron Horse Trail is flat and paved. You run 3.1 miles out, turn around, and come back the same way. Please stay to the right, since the trail stays open to other walkers and cyclists.

What if it rains?

We run rain or shine. If the weather is dangerous, we’ll post updates here and email everyone who registered.

Can I run in honor of someone?

Please do. At check-in you can write a name on a tulip card and pin it to your shirt, or add it to our memory wall at the finish.
